About Helen
Helen Bacon Hill is a lifelong educator, community leader, and dedicated historian with deep roots in Mecklenburg County, Chase City, Virginia. She served in the Mecklenburg Public School System for over 33 years, retiring in 2009 as Superintendent. Her extensive career in education reflects her commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and community service.
Prior to her tenure as Superintendent, Helen served in various educational roles, including:
- Teacher
- Visiting Teacher
- Assistant Principal – Park View High School
- Principal – Chase City Elementary School
- General Supervisor
- Assistant Superintendent
- Interim Superintendent
Helen earned her degrees from Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, including:
- Bachelor of Science Degree
- Master of Science Degree
- Superintendent License and Postgraduate Professional Licenses in Administration and Supervision from the Virginia Department of Education

As Historian and Co-Chair of the Governance Committee, Helen plays a critical role in preserving and documenting MacCallum More’s rich history. Her passion for education and historical preservation helps ensure that MacCallum More remains a cultural and educational landmark for future generations.
Helen is also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where she continues to advocate for education, leadership, and community empowerment. Her mission in life is simple yet powerful: to be a positive contributor to any task assigned.
